We have opened our 5th bush camp in a secluded area in the southern part of South Luangwa National Park. The camp is unique as it will be the only bush camp to remain open beyond the peak season.  Situated on the Kapamba River, guests get the chance to enjoy this untouched corner of the National Park. All-weather roads ensure the stunning area can be explored, even during the rainy season.  Each of the camp’s 4 chalets is designed to offer stunning views of the river.  The en-suite open-air bathrooms are the camp’s crowning glory, with the huge sunken stone baths.  Walking safaris from the Kapamba are exceptional.  The camp is also the starting point for the new Kapamba Walking Trail, a seven-night itinerary that follows the course of the river.

Our new website was launched a few weeks ago and we've been thrilled with the response.

Last November we had a cameraman staying for a few days - he was filming for the Animal Planet series Wildlife SOS. It was his first time in Africa and he was astounded by the wealth and variety of wildlife here in the South Luangwa.

We have just placed some of the footage he took on our website - take a look at the amazing images he captured. We also have a limited number of free DVD's for promotional use. Let us know if you like the films.

As we kick into the busiest three months of the year heads are down and wheels are rolling!  Now that the football world cup has finally come to a close (Italy was it?) we are experiencing a rush of late bookings.  We have had a number of last minute cancellations this year (due to no related reasons, but the pull of ailing dogs, cats and mothers!) so those of you who were looking for space earlier and were disappointed – do try again now.
Remember that we update our availability hourly on the website - RPS availability  so you can check out what we have for you.  Also note that the 2007 Walking Mobile Safari dates are on the web as well.

The leopards are still going strong for us at Chiawa Camp and we have been enjoying watching a young male and his mother feeding on an impala up in a tree for the past two days, with a hyena skulking about the bottom of the tree hoping for some scraps.

Our resident lion pride with four young cubs has also been a pleasure to watch, particularly on this morning’s game drive where we got to enjoy watching three lionesses frolicking in a channel off the Zambezi, chasing each other and splashing about seemingly without a care in the world and completely oblivious to our presence.

Old Mondoro has also been treated to some fine leopard sightings including two males having a territorial squabble up in a tree and another phenomenal sighting where our guide and guests got to watch a female leopard drink at a waterhole. Levy, our new guide at Old Mondoro is also finding some incredible sightings with our guests and truly enjoying his new territory. Still some of the best walking area in the Lower Zambezi N.P! Combine any of Chiawa Camp, Sausage Tree and Old Mondoro for the ultimate Zambezi safari and for the ultimate African safari, simply combine any of Chiawa Camp, Sausage Tree and Old Mondoro with a few nights in the South Luangwa at some of the fine lodges and bush camps there.

With the vegetation dying back during our cooler dry months, the game viewing has been absolutely brilliant. From mating leopard to 7 porcupine sightings in one night, not to mention our regular sightings around camp of the resident buffalo, hippo and big bull ele’s. The fishing has been on and off and our record this season so far is a 15lb tiger fish, not too bad! Camp is looking great and Dave is “almost” finished with the new jetty for the boats and canoes.

The guests who have been staying at The Islands of Siankaba in the last month have had an interesting sighting whilst on village walks in the nearby villages.

A Zebra had decided that it prefers the company of a local donkey herd than its own kind. The Zebra that we nicknamed ‘Gerald’ (for no apparent reason) has presumably walked to the villages from the nearby Mosi-O-Tunya National Park or possibly all the way from the Kafue.  He took up residence just over two weeks ago and seems MORE than happy with life in the company of the female donkeys.  Who knows maybe we will start to see some striped 'Zonkeys' in the near future.

The area around Livingstone saw an exceptional amount of rain this year and as a result the gardens at The River Club are looking truly magnificent. This has also had a dramatic effect on the amount of birdlife on the property including fantastic sightings of Shalow’s Loeurie and African Finfoot.
Winter has now set in and with it comes the most spectacular sunsets on the river and exquisite sunrises with heavy mists on the river. The photographic opportunities are boundless every minute of the day.
The chalets have undergone a revamp which put the bathrooms in a league of their own and the view from the ball and claw baths still remains amongst the finest in Africa.
Gin and Tonics in the bath, Pimms on the croquet lawn and the wildlife looks on in disbelief!

Winter has reached the Southern Hemisphere. Nights are fresh, while the day temperatures remain pleasantly warm.

This is the ideal season to enjoy a cozy dinner in the wine cellar at Stanley Safari Lodge.

Due to the good rains this year, the water level of the Zambezi river has remained quite high during this month. Now the levels are dropping rapidly however.

"Stanley must be one of the most stylish boutique hotels in the world".

Tuesday 27th June, slightly later than usual due to high waters, Livingstone Island re-opened with a vengeance. The waters are high and the spray is magnificent.

Tongabezi offer five trips daily for a maximum of 12 people per trip. The visit begins with a thrilling ride through the channels of the Zambezi. Thereafter, guests enjoy a guided exploration of the island where guests can enjoy the spectacular views of the Falls. Afterwards sit back and relax with refreshments and in low waters the more adventurous amongst you can take a dip right on the edge of the Falls.
