The Bushcamp Company is offering dedicate Spa Safaris as its properties.  Guests can now treat themselves to a range of massage treatments while taking in the sounds of the African bush.  Treatments available include Hot Stone Therapy, Swedish massage and Thai massage.  Making use of the spacious and secluded deck at Mfuwe Lodge, guests can enjoy ‘a massage with a view’ while overlooking a lagoon full of hippos, crocs and extensive bird life. Treatments can also be offered on the private deck of a guest’s chalet.  Massages can be booked in advance, or at the lodge or the bush camps. The treatments are ideal for those wanting a bit of pampering after a day of walking in the bush, or who simply need to realign after being in the back of a game viewing vehicle.

We have recently taken receipt of a DVD created by a film crew that visited Kapani and our bushcamps.  They were only with us for 5 days so the DVD gives an excellent idea of what can be seen in a short visit to the Luangwa.

We are happy to distribute copies free of charge to anyone that is interested so for your free copy please send us an e-mail giving us your full postal address and we will get one out to you without delay.

Chiawa Camp wishes to congratulate Zambia on its successful free and fair general elections held earlier this month with record high turn outs of voters.  However the leopards and other wildlife have also been turning out in record numbers with some of our day drives last week reporting four leopards in just one morning – these included a leopardess with two tiny cubs, one shown here.  The canoeing has also been excellent with sightings of lions on the banks whilst in the company of Giant Kingfishers; and the tiger fishing season is upon us and red hot! There is no question that in the past few years the Lower Zambezi National Park has become one of Africa’s most intense wildlife experiences and there is no finer place to experience all this splendor from than at Chiawa Camp.

The October heat has arrived and game are being drawn to the cool clean waters of the Zambezi river, to swim and drink. This is making game viewing spectacular as big herds of elephant and buffalo (resident herd of about 400) congregate in and around the river and its channels…One morning we were woken up by staff members calling from their quarters. They could not move… the three male lions and the pregnant lioness killed a buffalo bull 5m from were they were sleeping!! We had 3 days of lions feasting on the buffalo and good action between lion and vultures - right in camp!  Serval sightings during the month were unbelievable as we see them almost every night, and good ones as well, observing some natural behavior, watching a big male hunt 3 mice in ten minutes, jumping high and pouncing on the unfortunate victims.

The month of October sure has "heated" up in every aspect, the afternoon sun, the wildlife sightings and the fishing. Driving through a Winterthorn forest we came across a Leopard cub, then another cub joined, excellent, but it got better. The cubs walked along and rejoined with their mother who was feeding on an impala.  Four male baboons enter the scene and a fight ensues. The Leopardess wins the day, the intense action finally rounded off with a Hyena coming along to investigate the commotion."
The Tiger-fishing has also heated up with many successful trips with up to 16 Tigerfish caught in one trip, pure adrenalin! There's been so many phenomenal moments that I could fill this whole newsletter far too easily. A stupendous safari feast...

Luangwa Safari House is open all year and the different seasons bring different treats.

As this is written there are around 60 elephants taking a mud bath only 20 metres from the house – and if you sit on the deck quietly, you are only some 10 metres away from some of the magnificent creatures. During the Emerald Season this large lagoon system starts to fill and the water birds start coming through.

And during the peak of the Luangwa flow, the river has back filled so the water is up to the deck. You can actually boat from the deck.
