We have had a fantastic opening
season. Fishing for the mighty Tiger on the Zambezi
continues to be the highlight of many trips. Geoff
Robinson, a regular guest from the USA, has also proved that
using a fly as opposed to bait or spinning does not limit
the size of the fish. After a long fight, the elation of
landing the 16.5lbs Tiger made it worth the effort.
One Night Drive seems almost too incredible to believe...On
approach to the top crossing of the Chongwe River a group of
four Hyenas were spotted on an impala carcass. More
intriguing though was the leopard that was watching with
great irritation. It was clear who had first captured the
dinner. On the way back to Chongwe House a Pel’s Fishing Owl
was perched above the Redcliff Pool, made surprisingly
visible by the over hanging full moon. A truly beautiful
sighting. |

A number of
times this season, we have been lucky enough to find a
breeding herd of elephant on our lawns– a pure joy for all
in camp. One afternoon, 5 -10 of these took delight in using
our mud wallow between two of the tents causing much
hilarity for those watching the youngsters slipping and
sliding and enjoying their cooling shower. One young mother
even brought her infant to visit our bar area – he was busy
chasing imaginary demons as only young eles can do and
carefully playing with the pebbles that line our pathways
with his feet. As he moved closer and closer, staff and
guests held their breath as Mum rumbled a warning to him and
he calmly stared at us, shook his ears wide and reached his
trunk straight out to sniff the air between us. This cow has
continued to bring him onto the guest areas around the
lounge and bar. |
