We are proud to announce the extended opening of Bilimungwe bushcamp. This year Bilimungwe joins Kapamba in offering guests the chance to explore the glory of the park in the Green Season, as well as celebrate Christmas and New Year in this wildlife haven. These are the ONLY two bushcamps in the South Luangwa National Park to remain open from May through to the New Year. Green Season rates apply from 1 November, so guests wishing to visit the bushcamps can now take advantage of these lower prices. The Bushcamp Company prides itself on added value and is pleased to offer guests the opportunity to experience Africa on foot, under the leadership of our award winning guide, Manda Chisanga, who is based at Bilimungwe. Manda was recently named 2006 Guide of the Year by the readers of Wanderlust magazine.  For additional information please contact us at info@bushcampcompany.com

Safari Specials with RPS

We have expanded our safari specials for 2008 and now have a number of safaris running throughout the Emerald Season. These safaris all have a focus be it going to Bangweulu Swamps to see the shoebill stork, improving your digital photography or just being on safari with the emphasis on birding. We always say these months are a very special time of year with the river high, the lagoons full, the birds breeding and the animals in their peak condition. All the dates, rates, and descriptions are on the website.

Greetings – our 3rd Superior Tent has now opened and like its two predecessors, sets new standards of tented comfort in Zambia. Indoor and outdoor showers, a roll top bath with Molton Brown amenities and a view of the Zambezi River and its escarpment, a super-king sized bed draped in pure cotton linens all on a timber deck with locally made and imported furnishings make for the ultimate safari under canvas. Game viewing is fabulous with lots of lion and leopard sightings and an aardvark just the other day. In the last week two new lion cubs and one new leopard cub have also been discovered near camp. And the camp record for Vundu catfish has just been broken - a massive 82lb fish was caught and released in front of camp!

Old Mondoro’s 2007 safari season has now begun and right away the big cats have been performing. Sightings of our local coalition of three male lions, more recently feeding alongside a lioness and three brand new cubs on an adult hippo they killed, not far from camp followed by some excellent leopard sightings literally in the back of camp. The redesigned lounge and dining area with decks, more space and new cane furniture has proven an immediate hit, adding more style and comfort to the camp but still staying true to its bush camp roots. The 4 bush chalets have benefited greatly from a sun deck with shade added, making for an inviting retreat to relax in the afternoons whilst watching the hippos splash, on by.

There are many words to describe the African bush, the experience and the memories, but the real Africa is where you can re-live this intimate relationship with nature, where it is unspoilt and free. Sausage Tree Camp, with its extraordinary location, is in the heart of this piece of real Africa, the Lower Zambezi National Park.  With the camp in full swing, it has been another month full of surprises and wonders. The picture to the side was what was waiting for us when we arrived for our afternoon sun-downer drinks. All seven of the various aged lion cubs were happily playing half way up a big Mahogany tree. An uncommon sighting wherever you are!  It’s these unexpected moments, where you feel that something new and amazing could be around the next corner.

Islands of Siankaba has a new and exciting menu that is currently been put into place with the arrival of our international chef, John Malpas.  John is looking forward to wowing our guests with his creative and imaginative new dishes. He is incorporating some local flavours and local fresh produce into his meals, some of which include a Cerviche of Crocodile tail with sesame, chili & coriander noodles as well as a Mopane wood smoked pork tenderloin with sage, fennel seed & apricot stuffing. John joins us along with Lizanne Zietsman who has worked with John in Scotland and will be your hostess as well as taking care of some administration duties at the lodge.

Whoever wanted to witness a truly unique and memorable football match had to make his way up to Simonga on the 18th of May. 5 buses filled with the football team, spectators and supporters of the Unum group/UK arrived to challenge the village boys. Needless to say they were a bit surprised seeing that the pitch was not THAT even, more so on a slope and spiced up with potholes baking in the early afternoon sun, but they made the best out of it and went home loosing 0:1 only. Nevertheless Unum handed over a cheque for 2000 GBP that was immediately used to purchase some paint and repaint the school, the police station and the head lady's house. And we are looking forward to the next match!
